Police Reform, Law Enforcement Across America Mandate LGBTQ Awareness Training

A study by the Williams Institute in May found that LGBTQ+ people are six times more likely than the general public to be stopped by police. This has caused a strained relationship with the community, so to help mend the rift police departments across the country are introducing LGBTQ+ awareness and cultural competency training. Some people don’t feel like this is enough. Marti Gould Cummings said, “Across the board systemic racism and homophobia is in play within policing, so it goes beyond training and budget. This has been going on since the beginning of our country.”
