The battle for the favors of the LGBT travelers also takes place in the sky, perhaps at ’10 miles high’. It started in the US, where it still happens a lot, but soon Europe and other parts of the world followed. This resulted in funny, wrong, colorful and effective campaigns. There are special websites, loyalty programs, benefits and, above all, cheerful attention.

Booking.com research reveals barriers and opportunities for Australian LGBTIQ+ Travellers

– Half of LGBTIQ+ travellers (46%) report they have experienced some form of discrimination when travelling

SYDNEY, Aug. 31, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Today, leading digital travel platform Booking.com released new research revealing half of Australian LGBTIQ+ travellers have experienced some form of discrimination when traveling.

With travel restrictions resulting in this year’s Winter Pride in New Zealand being cancelled, and this key moment of travel and celebration put on hold for LGBTIQ+ communities, it’s more important than ever to reflect on the challenges they face. With this campaign, Booking.com aims to create a more inclusive experience when travel becomes a possibility again.

According to the research, 66% say they have to consider their safety and wellbeing as an LGBTIQ+ traveller when picking a destination and over half (57%) believe traveling as part of the LGBTIQ+ community means that some destinations are off limits.

As evidenced by this research with LGBTIQ+ travellers, and despite some positive signals, a substantial portion of the global population doesn’t feel like they can show up as themselves when they travel. In light of this, Booking.com today announced its Proud Hospitality training program for its accommodation partners.

The first step for an accommodation provider to become a Proud Certified property on the Booking.com platform is a 75-minute online Proud Hospitality training session. After completing the online course and making a commitment to deliver a more inclusive experience, Proud Certified partners will receive a Travel Proud badge on their property page.

“Everything we do at Booking.com is about enabling smoother and more enjoyable travel experiences for everyone – no matter where they come from, who they love or how they identify,” said Tracey Foxall, Regional Manager Oceania at Booking.com.

“One in five Australian LGBTIQ+ travellers say they are hopeful about being able to travel without restrictions or limitations in the next five years. We firmly believe we can get there together and that everyone should be able to experience the world as themselves, always.”

The training is available free of charge to Booking.com property partners. The program is also rolling out to partners in the United States, Canada, UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands and New Zealand.

OutBuro Voices Interview Matthew French Awesomely Authentic Career Coach Educational College Prep Diversity Inclusion Consulting LGBT Professionals Gay Entrepreneurs LGBTQ Students

Building Business and Life from Opportunity and Passion

In this episode of OutBüro Voices featuring LGBTQ professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders from around the world, host Dennis Velco chats with Dëv Ramsumair, out gay entrepreneur, fashion event producer, museum curator, foster parent, and much more.

Warning! When Dëv and I have the opportunity to chat we cover lots of ground. This interview conversation is no different. What I love about this is the openness and vulnerability demonstrating the width and breadth of us all as humans in where we have so many facets to our lives. I hope you enjoy this conversation. Leave a comment below about yourself, maybe topics you’d like me to explore in future episodes.

Dëv at the age of 14 started his first company which was a media business focusing on arts, entertainment, and fashion with a focus on diversity and inclusion. At age 16 he started producing events at Fashion Weeks off-site around the world such as in Londo, Milan, Paris, New York, Toronto, and some emerging cities like Berlin with a keen focus on diversity. He was a pioneer and instrumental in bringing diversity awareness to the fashion industry focusing on race, ethnicity, gender, ability, sexuality, and body size/type.

OutBuro Dëv Ramsumair social entrepreneur out gay business owner lgbt professional destigaytions ltravel lesbian bisexual transgender queer community

Throughout his life, he has seized opportunities to build a business, his career, and create his life based on seeing opportunities, grading the moment, and running with it. This is about his journey and current projects, and life. Dëv inspires me and I hope he inspires you. It started at the age of 14 when he was looking at a magazine ad and thought that it is targeted at him and his friends get no one looked like the model. He picked up the phone and called the advertiser and his message was heard by the right people. They asked for his input and from there, his company was formed. Amazing, since most 14 year-olds are more concerned with skateboards and video games.

Currently, he is an art curator at a major Toronto museum again focusing on bringing in and displaying art that represents the full spectrum of diversity. In addition to that and raising a child, he is also launching DestiGaytions, an internet platform for the LGBTQ community to plan those amazing lifetime destination travel tours while remaining safe in all locations. The idea for this was sparked when some friends asked him to go on a once in a lifetime trip to a location. His response was he couldn’t because that place has laws where they could arrest him just based on his skin color, faith, or sexual orientation. DestiGaytions aims to inform LGBTQ globe trotter on how to remain safe wherever they go and provide listings of services and accommodations that are safe and friendly that will service you be is attractions, bars, medical facilities, and more. He draws comparisons to the historic Green Book that was used by persons of color during the times when it was not safe for them to travel in all locations. DestiGaytions plans to launch in the Summer of 2021.

We further chat about how he became the guardian of a baby boy and raising him, for now, seven years. As an adoptive parent myself we chatted about the benefits and life changes of raising a child. Consider being a foster parent for an LGBTQ teen. You can provide a safe, loving home and be a mentor giving that teen a new perspective and opportunity in life.

Tom Carlucci: Building Rome – The Largest LGBTQ Resort in Florida

In this episode of OutBüro Voices featuring LGBTQ professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders from around the world, host Dennis Velco chats with serial entrepreneur Tom Carlucci in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Tom is building ROME, which will be the largest gay resort and entertainment complex in Florida serving both local as well as vacation travelers.

Rome - The Largest LGBTQ Resort in Florida Gay Vacation Hotel Complex Tampa Bat St Pete Saint Petersburg

Prior to launching Riceplex (more info below), Tom spent several years in the hospitality industry working at large casino resorts in Atlantic City.  He worked in many areas of the resort’s operation which provides him a great foundation for his newest entrepreneurial quest in building the largest LGBTQ resort and entertainment complex in Florida literally from the ground up.  His new resort is called ROME with distinctive Mediterranean architecture and decor.

Tom explains that ROME will be a members-only resort a decision to increase the safety of all guests so that only members who are biometrically identified may enter.  ROME will be an inclusive place for all community members offering various dining, entertainment, activities, and venues to suit whatever mood you are in on that day.  ROME will also have different levels of rooms from large well appoint suits for those on extended stays to smaller rooms for those last-minute smart decisions to stay the night versus driving home after a night of exuberant celebration.  From Tom’s experience in large resorts, he knows how an exceptional service experience is important.  So, like those large resorts, ROME will employ the use of a guest experience database capturing the choices customers make so for example if they know a frequent guest loves chocolate, they may have it in their room upon arrival.  Attention to detail and quality will be the hallmark of ROME.

Tom is the founder of Riceplex which is a nutritional product ingredient company, focused on plant-based nutritional powders. It supplies bulk material to small to medium-sized formulators (primarily smoothie/health shake makers and nutrition bar manufacturers. We have a direct-to-consumer retail segment served by our core online venues: Riceplex.com, PoseidonHealth.com, and HapaVir.com.  It also supplies nutrition-focused call center operations with private label products.  This company was founded in 2002.

Tom currently has a few potential development sites around Tampa Bay under consideration and expects to have the location choice nailed down by Jan 2021. Once that happens there will likely be 5-6 months of slight layout adjustment to the master plan and then breaking ground in the Summer of 2021. His goal is to be open by the Summer of 2022.  An aggressive target for a large project like this, but Tom will be on top of all details along the way.    You can join ROME today and be an early supporter.  The early member who join now and during the construction phase will have special perks to show appreciation.  Check out the site and join ROME today at http://TheRomeVenture.com/
