Lil Nas X Crushes Homophobic Rap Meme And The World Reacts In Surprising Way

Lil Nas X has proven once again that he is the ultimate troll with his hilarious response to a homophobic meme. The widely-shared meme is a side-by-side image showing legendary rapper 2Pac on the left wearing a white suit. On the right is a picture of Lil Nas X at the MTV VMAs wearing a purple gown. The meme says: “Rappers then and now”, suggesting that Lil Nas X has somehow brought his genre into disrepute with his iconic, gender-bending looks. The “Industry Baby” rapper recreated the meme but replaced the picture of him with a nicer one tweeting, “Can y’all please stop spreading this! Spread this one instead, it’s a much better angle.”

Door Dash Delivery Man Arrested for Writing Anti-Gay Slurs on Gay Couples Sandwich Order

In this episode:
A DoorDash delivery man in Massachusetts was arrested on criminal harassment charges last week allegedly writing homophobic slurs on a gay couple’s order. Matthew Butchard, 27, of East Sandwich, were not kidding, is alleged to have drawn a penis and the couple’s names, followed by the words “gay fags” on a Subway sandwich order. Butchard’s actions were allegedly recorded on a Snapchat video that showed him writing on the sandwich as he dropped it off in the driveway of the couple’s East Sandwich home. According to court documents, Colin Brady, 25, of Sandwich, was a participant in the incident but has not been charged, reports The Enterprise, a Cape Cod newspaper. Police spoke with the couple and their 20-year-old son, who said this is not the first time that Butchard has harassed their family. The son told police he believes Butchard has targeted their family is because of his fathers’ same-sex relationship. A warrant was issued for Butchard’s arrest, charging him with criminal harassment, property damage to intimidate, and civil rights violation counts. Of those charges, criminal harassment would carry the longest possible sentence, of 30 months. A spokesperson for DoorDash was not immediately available for comment.

Professional Male Tennis Players Take Secret Survey on LGBTQ+ Attitudes

About 60 players on the men’s professional tennis tour have taken part so far in an anonymous, online survey about LGBTQ issues that ATP CEO Massimo Calvelli calls part of a broader initiative to create “an environment for players and staff that is inclusive, that is diverse and that is very safe and welcoming.” The survey was created after the ATP reached out to Pride Sports, a U.K.-based group who works “to challenge homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in sport and improve access to sport for LGBT+ people.” A link to more than 30 questions was emailed to about 500 singles players and 250 doubles players in August, and the tour plans to close the survey at the end of September, ATP spokesman Mark Epps said.

Miami Beach Mayor Stands on Rainbow Flag at Pride

Controversy Erupts Online as Miami Beach Mayor Stands on Pride Flag

South Florida celebrated Miami Beach Pride this past weekend, and when Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber stood on the long Rainbow flag used in the parade for a photo op, it caused a lot of anger on social media. As homophobia runs rampant in Eastern Europe and even parts of the US, stomping or standing on Rainbow flags for photos has become a way to express anger towards the LGBTQ+ community on social media. The president of Pride Fort Lauderdale, Kevin Clevenger commented on the photo, “Why would you stand on this flag for a photo op? This flag is a symbol of our community, cost thousands of dollars and should be treated with respect. If someone was to stand on the American flag, would you be okay with that?”

BEYOND DIVERSITY: 12 Non Obvious Ways to Build a More Inclusive World By Rohit Bhargava and Jennifer Brown

Can one book help to build a more fair and inclusive world? This one can.

NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — In Beyond Diversity: 12 Non Obvious Ways to Build a More Inclusive World, best-selling authors Rohit Bhargava and Jennifer Brown team up to tackle some of society’s most pressing challenges: dismantling racism, oppression and exclusion and building acceptance and understanding across differences. They achieve this through storytelling and a focus on intersectional perspectives and voices.

A book about how to build a more inclusive world. Coming November 9, 2021. Visit www.nonobviousdiversity.com/media for more information and resources.

BEYOND DIVERSITY: 12 Non Obvious Ways to Build a More Inclusive World can help build a more fair and inclusive world.Tweet this

Beyond Diversity, available November 9, 2021, is inspired by the inaugural Non-Obvious Beyond Diversity Summit in January 2021. More than 200 DEI champions from around the globe came together at the virtual summit to share their stories, including casting directors, bookstore owners, disability community leaders, healthcare professionals, students, VCs, standup comedians, chief diversity officers, pro gamers, archaeologists, government insiders, startup founders, and even a master puppeteer. Over 75 percent of them identified as belonging to an underrepresented group and more than two-thirds identified as a gender other than male. The range of expertise and topics represented was equally diverse.

Their stories are sure to create moments of awareness and awakening. With real life testimony they show how each of us, no matter our background or identity, can have an impact and drive change in the world.

Beyond Diversity takes readers on an educational journey and lifts the lid on how bias and privilege have benefitted a few at the expense of the many. The book offers an ambitious look at diversity, equity, and inclusion through the lens of twelve specific themes: storytelling, identity, family, culture, education, retail, workplace, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, government, and the future. Each chapter paints a revealing picture of our world, the potential for change and what actions will help us get there.

The book is a call to action and Bhargava and Brown challenge each of us to build bridges to a more authentically diverse and equitable future. This is a book about being more than a bystander. It provides a much-needed directive for stepping off the sidelines and getting involved. The only way to enact change is to inspire bystanders to take action. For former bystanders, and DEI experts alike, this book offers a blueprint for action to create a more inclusive world for everyone.

With the ongoing global focus on inclusion and equity and the fast-moving shifts across society, Beyond Diversity provides relevant and timely expertise for individuals, organizations and leaders. The book’s insights guide readers to compassionately and effectively respond to the deeply entrenched divisions, disparities and inequities that are prevalent across the world.

Beyond Diversity is currently available for pre-sale and will become available for sale on November 9, 2021. Visit nonobviousdiversity.com/media to download the book excerpt, join the launch team and access other media resources.

Advance Praise for Beyond Diversity

“Thought-provoking, layered and fresh. Each one of us has a part to play in creating a more inclusive world. Wherever you may be in your journey, Beyond Diversity is the weapon in your DEI arsenal. For the non-believers, bystanders, and uninitiated—be inspired to make better inclusion choices. For the believers, advocates, and experts—be rejuvenated in your fight for equity.”   —MICHELLE KING, Author of The Fix and CEO of Equality Forward

“Beyond Diversity is an urgently needed, eminently practical book that every leader should read. Bhargava and Brown have taken on a tough topic with sharp minds and open hearts. In a dozen crisp and fascinating chapters, they show how to move past mere sentiment to bring genuine inclusion into action.” —DANIEL H. PINK, New York Times bestselling author of When, Drive, and To Sell Is Human

“Jennifer and Rohit have artfully used the power of storytelling to connect the reader with the lived experience of LGBTQ+ people and other marginalized communities that have been systematically discriminated against and ‘othered’ for far too long. We must build a society that is more inclusive of transgender and non-binary people and honors their contributions and realities. Their book opens eyes, hearts, and minds!” —AMBER HIKES, Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

OAS commission calls for Venezuela to protect LGBTQ rights

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has called for Venezuela to do more to protect LGBTQ+ people from violence and discrimination. The report the commission released on Sept. 8 specifically notes six men on May 31, 2020, attacked Jorge Granado in Ciudad Guayana, a city in Bolívar state, because of his sexual orientation. The report also notes Marcy Ávila, an LGBTQ rights activist, has suffered “harassment.” The Organization of American States, which is based in D.C., created the commission in 1959 as a way to promote human rights throughout the Western Hemisphere. It works closely with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights to enforce the American Convention on Human Rights.

Students walk out of school in support of teacher put on leave for coming out.

LGBTQ Nation reports that around 100 students at Winterset High School in Iowa walked out yesterday after a teacher was placed on leave for answering truthfully when a student asked if he is bisexual. At the beginning of the school year literature teacher, Lucas Kaufman shared a PowerPoint presentation with students so they could get to know him better. In a slide entitled “things that describe me” included a rainbow flag, a student asked him why he included a rainbow flag and he said that he’s bisexual. This made some parents angry even though some straight teachers tell their students all the time about their sexual orientation like when they talk about opposite partners their children or many other details from their lives. Many parents don’t like it when LGBTQ teachers do the same. One 8th grade student who participated in the walkout said “it’s showing how homophobic our town is and it’s not a good reputation for our school it’s proving that kids cannot come out without punishment.”

Georgia student assaulted, dragged across the floor for wearing LGBTQ Pride flag

Georgia student assaulted, dragged across the floor for wearing LGBTQ Pride flag. Metroweekly reports that a Georgia high school student faces multiple charges after attacking a classmate who was wearing a rainbow Pride flag. Video of the incident, which took place on Sept. 2, shows the student at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Ga., running up behind the victim and pulling the flag — which was draped around their shoulders — so forcibly that the victim was yanked down onto the floor. Students watched and laughed as the attacker, who has not been named, ran while still holding the flag, dragging the victim along the cafeteria floor. Another student, who was seated with the victim, rushed over to try and stop the attack. After struggling, the attacker took the Pride flag and threw it into a nearby bin, toppling it over. The video ends as the attacker appears to strike the student who tried to intervene. José, a graduate of Lowndes High School, shared the video to Twitter, noting that his brother currently attends the school. They called the attack “a fucking hate crime,” adding, “I’m so fucking LIVID that girl at the table was smiling and laughing at this kid getting assaulted.”

Hobby Lobby loses decades long battle to discriminate against employees OutBuro LGBTQ professional entrepreneur online networking community lesbian bisexual transgender nonbinary

Hobby Lobby Loses Decade-Long Battle to Discriminate Against Trans Employees

After an 11 year battle, the discrimination legal battle of a transgender employee against the well-known religiously oriented employer Hobby Lobby has come to a happy ending for the employee. on Friday, Aug 13, 2021, Illinois’ 2nd District Appellate Court ruled that Megan Summerville, 51, suffered unlawful discrimination by her employer Hobby Lobby when the employer denied her access to the women’s bathroom. In doing so the court affirmed the Illinois Human Rights Commission’s earlier decision to award Summerville $220,000 in damages and returned the case back to the Commission to determine if additional damages are owed due to the company’s continued discrimination. Summerville’s case dates back to July 2010 when she informed her employer of her intent to begin using the woman’s restroom at her store – a year after starting her transition. According to court documents, Hobby Lobby changed her personnel records to reflect her new name and gender but refused to allow her to use the woman’s bathroom. Summerville’s management ordered other employees to report her if she used the woman’s bathroom. Hobby Lobby issued a warning upon one instance.
