University of Phoenix Employees Celebrate Phoenix Pride Parade

Employee Resource Group leads participation in Phoenix community event

PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE)–University of Phoenix employees support the Phoenix Pride Parade, held November 6, the annual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community held in Phoenix, Arizona. University of Phoenix Employee Resource Group (ERG), Allies of Pride, with over 500 members, promotes the event to staff, students and faculty and provides volunteer support.

During the pandemic, many similar celebrations and in-person community events and support opportunities were cancelled or delayed.

“It’s important to remember that Pride is not just a parade or a specific month in which we celebrate. Pride is what we do every day. It’s what’s inside us, how we live our lives open and honestly and how we support each other. Pride is never cancelled,” shares Julie Fink, vice president of Human Resources at University of Phoenix. “However, we are excited to have a visual and in-person celebration of our community and support for each other, which is so critical as we emerge from a very difficult year and a half. This parade is an opportunity to celebrate, be together, and to support our loved ones, family members, and each other.”

The purpose of Allies of Pride employee resource group is to promote awareness within the University and community of LGBTQ understanding and acceptance. Additionally, the goal is to attract “allies” who support LGBTQ causes and rights to create a stronger support network both internally and externally of the organization.

“The University of Phoenix is dedicated to the work of advancing inclusion as part of its focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB),” Fink states. “It has received perfect successive scores on the HRC Corporate Equality Index. This highlights the University’s willingness to review practices to make changes or adapt to evolving nondiscrimination views.”

The HRC Corporate Equality Index is a self-reported system that evaluates workplace equality in regard to specific criteria, including workforce protections, inclusive benefits, supporting an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility, and responsible citizenship. University of Phoenix has received a perfect Equality Index score consecutively over the past four years.

About the Montréal Pride Festival
Since 2007, at the initiative of Montréal’s 2SLGBTQI+ communities, the Montréal Pride Festival has been promoting their rights and celebrating their cultural richness and social advances. The largest gathering of the sexually and gender diverse (SGD) communities in the Francophone world, it works locally on a daily basis while serving as a beacon of hope for people living in 2SLGBTQI+ hostile regions of the globe. In 2020, the festival produced a 360 Edition with all of its festivities presented in a digital format in compliance with health measures in place then. In 2021, the festivities are being held from August 9 to 15 and will present a hybrid program mixing in-person physical events with virtual presentations. More information is available on the web page, the Facebook page, as well as Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Mediaplanet and Frankie Grande Team Up to Promote LGBTQ+ Empowerment

NEW YORK, June 29, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Helping to conclude Pride Month, Mediaplanet today announces the launch of this June’s edition of “LGBTQ+ Empowerment.” With Pride Month coming to an end, this campaign wants to provide tools to empower the LGBTQ+ community year-round. The campaign highlights organizations who are implementing changes everywhere from workplace safety and inclusion to disparities in healthcare and access to equal services.

As the country continues to deal with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, attitudes toward LGBTQ+ Americans and their experiences remain underexamined. More than one in three LGBTQ+ Americans faced discrimination of some kind in the past year, including more than three in five transgender people. While the United States has grown since the Stonewall riots in 1969, there is still much improvement needed.

The print component of “LGBTQ+ Empowerment” is distributed within today’s edition of USA Today in Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, and Washington DC/Baltimore markets, with a circulation of approximately 150,000 copies and an estimated readership of 450,000. The digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets. To explore the digital version of the campaign, visit: https://www.modernwellnessguide.com/campaign/lgbtq-empowerment/

Long-time LGBTQ+ activist Frankie Grande graces the cover of the print publication. In an exclusive interview, Grande why homophobic bullying online had such a traumatic impact on him, and how he’s learned to manage his social media content creation without spinning out of control. “I had worked so hard to build a community of support so that I felt comfortable being my out proud, gay rainbow, loving, glitter-wearing self. And that was the thing that people started bullying me for,” Grande said. “It was just for being who I am.”

This campaign was made possible with the support of GEICO, REALI, Guaranteed Rate, Mountainside Treatment Center, and Calmerry.

Jeffrey Rohrer, First NFL Player to Enter a Same-Sex Marriage, Releases Original Song to Celebrate PRIDE

LOS ANGELES, June 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Jeffrey Rohrer, former NFL linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys and the first NFL player to enter a same-sex marriage, releases original song, “Come Build A Rainbow With Me”, to continue the celebrations of PRIDE beyond Pride Month. Written and performed by Rohrer, as a Dallas Cowboy emoji character, the tune is meant to spread a positive message of love and understanding.

Jeffrey Rohrer, the first NFL player to enter a same-sex marriage, releases original song to celebrate PRIDE.

Last week, Carl Nassib made NFL history by publicly coming out. It was a courageous step previously taken by Esera Tuaolo, Ryan O’Callaghan, Michael Sam and Rohrer himself in 2018 when he married his partner, Celebrity Aesthetician Joshua Ross of SkinLab. “It was a beautiful thing and a great moment for the NFL. I’ve dedicated this song to Carl and to anyone else who’s coming out. It takes a lot of courage and as someone who has been through it, it’s important to get the message out that it’s ok to be gay,” says Rohrer.

Rohrer wrote the “Come Build A Rainbow With Me” lyrics to help build an understanding between the gay community and society. His favorite verse, “love those that hate you, and those that berate you, be bigger than them, come build a rainbow with me” expresses that love wins.

“This is my contribution to pride and I want it to serve as an art piece that spreads joy,” says Rohrer. His hope is that it will help continue the celebration of pride throughout the year.

Daz 3D and Institute of Digital Fashion Launch Partnership and Digital Double for Pride

SALT LAKE CITY, June 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Daz 3D, a leader in 3D digital art, and the Institute of Digital Fashion (IoDF), a digital strategy and innovation institute that is a driving force in digital diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry, today released the first drop in their much anticipated partnership, a non-binary and photorealistic digital double, Catty 8.1. This release was developed with queer team members to represent queer voices and builds the foundation for these companies’ longer term partnership and the goal of IoDF’s work with Daz, to shift characterization into representation. Catty 8.1 was released for Pride on June 28, to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City, and can be found in the Daz 3D marketplace.

Catty 8.1 is a gender-nonconforming digital double of IoDF’s Creative Director and Co-Founder, Cattytay (she/they), sculpted and artistically realized by Daz and its most talented creators, while collaborating with IoDF on concepts and creative direction to authentically note the subtle codes of the queer universe. The bundles will also feature queer fashion at pivotal moments throughout modern LGBTQ+ history with references ranging from club culture to picket lines.

“As technology advances and our visual identities move more into digital spaces, we didn’t want to keep iterating on the quality of our figures without properly representing people from all communities — forwarding our values of innovation and inclusivity in 3D art,” said Matt Wilburn (he/him), President of Tafi and Daz 3D.

“Inclusivity must be thought of in the first stages of development, because it is much harder to ‘tack on’ later,” said Breanna Kilpack (they/them), Production Coordinator at Daz 3D. “If we ask the important questions around representation at the start, we can spend more time inventing limitless realities.”

“An important part of our work at IoDF is giving marginalized voices a space to be accurately represented and to push fairer representation. It was important to support the curation of this bundle for the queer space and for our queer community during Pride alongside Daz 3D,” said Cattytay (she/they), Creative Director and Co-Founder of IoDF.

“With our GLo-CAL networks of makers and artists we have the ability to amplify these changes which starts by listening to those makers. We are the bridge between the industry, those that are using the tools and the developers of those tools; the software companies,” said Leanne Elliott Young (she/her), CEO and Co-Founder of IoDF.

Together, Daz 3D and IoDF are seeking to activate change and propel digital diversity to ensure all underrepresented communities in the physical world are not left behind in the digital world. Cattytay’s digital double is the first release in a longer anticipated partnership between Daz 3D and IoDF as they both work to champion digital representation within 3D content, fashion, and the larger expansion of the metaverse.

About Institute of Digital Fashion

RNAO releases new guideline recommendations on 2SLGBTQI+ health equity during Pride weekend

TORONTO, June 24, 2021 /CNW/ – In the midst of Ontario’s Pride celebration, nurses, other health providers and health organizations will soon have evidence-based recommendations to improve access to care and health equity for Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex and additional (2SLGBTQI+) communities.

As we approach the start of Pride weekend – the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNA+O) will release its best practice guideline (BPG) on promoting 2SLGBTQI+ health equity. The much-anticipated recommendations will be revealed Saturday during the association’s 96th Annual General Meeting.

2SLGBTQI+ people have historically been silenced and face bias, discrimination and violence. Guided by the use of the intersectionality framework, an anti-oppression lens and inclusive of reconciliation and Two-Spirit health, RNAO’s latest BPG provides inclusive and affirming practice, organization and education recommendations to improve access and health equity for 2SLGBTQI+ communities.

“Evidence from across Canada shows 2SLGBTQI+ people face health inequities and barriers to getting the health care they need,” says Dr. Elizabeth M. Saewyc, RN and expert panel co-chair for the BPG. “Health systems are not designed to include them, and health professionals’ education doesn’t adequately cover their lives and health issues, so stigma and discrimination still result in disrespectful treatment in some health-care settings.”

The development of this latest RNAO BPG began in July 2018. A 16-member expert panel came together to determine the purpose and scope of the BPG, and to develop questions that would inform the systematic reviews. The group includes persons with lived experience, as well as individuals with knowledge and experience in clinical practice, education, research and activism across a range of health-service and academic organizations, practice areas and sectors. Each expert shared their insights on promoting health and caring for 2SLGBTQI+ people across the continuum of care.

“This guideline gives nurses and other health providers the evidence to transform health systems – from intake forms and IT systems, to policies and clinical practices – to provide the best care,” says Sheena Howard, RN and expert panel co-chair. “The impact will be felt in the relief of same-sex parents who are welcomed into a supportive birthing unit; the dignity of the older trans woman in the hospital emergency department called by the right name and pronouns; the pleased surprise of 2SLGBTQI+ teens when the school nurse knowledgeably answers their sexual health questions; and the confidence in the health-care provider to respectfully ask a trans man if he has had a PAP test and discuss other cancer screening.”

Following the BPG’s launch, Dr. Paul-André Gauthier, president of RNAO’s Rainbow Nursing Interest Group (RNIG), will share a position statement on respecting sexually and gender diverse communities. RNAO is committed to diversity and inclusivity, and this position statement reflects the association’s core values to advance individual and collective health.
