Trans Contestant and his Father Wow “Voice” Judge Ariana Grande With Duet

Fans of “The Voice” are familiar with the blind audition process, where judges cannot see the performers as they sing. Trans teen Sasha Allen was drawn to this saying, “I do have a special connection to the concept of a blind audition, where the only thing that matters is the art and who the person is inside.” He explained why this resonated with his trans identity saying, “I remember at night just laying in bed and thinking, if I could just wake up as a completely different person, I would do it. I would give up everything I have to be able to live in peace and live comfortably without being tormented internally.” When he and his father performed “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by John Denver, both Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande hit their famous red buttons that show they wanted the singers on their team. The duo decided to join Ariana’s team. Grande said, “It was really beautiful. It was really refreshing. I don’t know that we have anyone on the show that sounds like them.”
